Mission 2013 # 7. Leaving a Legacy

It is the second term for President Obama and politicians and historians will start discussing his legacy soon. As a parent we do not get to wait until we have a new marriage and a new family to establish a legacy. We are doing it from the days we accept Christ as Savior.

God clearly advises believers how to leave a great legacy of health, welfare and peace or one of sickness, pain and early death. In DT 5:7-10 God says:

You must have no other gods before me. Do not make an idol for yourself—no form whatsoever—of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth.  Do not bow down to them or worship them because I, the Lord your God, am a passionate God. I punish children for their parents’ sins—even to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me.  But I am loyal and gracious to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. The

Middle East is a continuing cauldron of political and military upheaval. The origin of the conflict is found on this chart. Abraham's Legacy is a mixed bag. What kind of legacy do you want to leave?

I am speaking the next two weeks at Southbrook Christian Church in Miamisburg, Ohio. Charlie McMahan and I will do one of our dialogue discussions about this passage and what it means for us today as well as what it meant for the Children of Israel. Charlie preached one of the best sermons I have ever heard last weekend, January 5 and 6, on the Hebrew meaning of these commandments. I have heard a lot of great talks in my life but few better and more insightful than his explanation of why it is written as it is with such generational promises. You can watch and listen by going to the Southbrook web

The research on Adverse Childhood Events and Adult Diseases, Addictions, and Dysfunctions shows a very high correlation between the two. The most traumatic of all Adversity in Childhood seems to be the loss of parental love, support and presence. Absentee parents leaves dramatic pains and dysfunctions that arise later in life as Addictions, Illnesses and Dysfunctions.

However, substantial Healing is Possible.

I would love to see you at our talks the next two weekends. We are praying for enlightenment, blessing and healing the family tree with you.

My book on healing is Breaking Free and one on healing the family tree is called How to be me in my Family Tree. Click here to buy them.
