My teacher is a man who is in his 90'ties. The told me a way of meditating called Jesusmeditation. It is always a story from the Gospel, and after reading it you try to imaging being part of the story. I try to listen to the Word of Jesus, seeing what is happening in story unfolding in front of my eyes. I try to meditate this way every day, and it has change my life and the way I read the Bible. The name of my teacher is Edin Løvås, a well known writer and preacher in Norway,
I learned a valuable meditation technique from Matthew Kelly, a catholic speaker and teacher. The technique involves simply sitting in a quiet and peaceful geographic location, getting comfortable, closing my eyes, and focusing all of myself on a symbol or image of Christ. I force myself to stay absolutely motionless and focused for as long as possible. I do not pray or make petitions, I simply focus and listen. I meditate like this regularly. It has become a valuable part of increasing my closeness in relationship to Jesus.
The Puritans had a vigorous life of meditation and contemplation. As I remember it, they read a gospel story and then imagined themselves into the story. I learned how to bring Jesus into my dreams and meditations as well but have allowed myself to get lazy and am not practicing meditation as much as I had in the past.
