After Pessimism and Anger What Do We Do?

James 3:5 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. So is the tongue among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire from hell!

I am going through the APART Acrostic to explain how a little Adversity can bring on a lot of Anguish. Stinking Thinking is a cycle of negative self-talk that ends up causing us to feel miserable.

Pain is inevitable
Misery is optional!

Pain is Adversity that, if we choose, can really turn into self punishment. If, however, we choose to feel differently we can feel good despite the Pain/Adversity. Since pain is inevitable we need to prepare for how to live it and overcome it or give in and let it control us.

Optimistic people overcome it and Pessimists allow Stinking Thinking to overcome them.
The Stinking Thinking Cycle
A=Adversity
P=Pessimism
Problems are all my Personal fault
Problems are Pervasive
Problems are Permanent
Problems are all Preventable
A=Anger and Aggravation are the result and they cause us to attack others or self.

R=Ruminate on failures and cause misery each time. If I get into an argument with my child at breakfast and yell at him, it will haunt me all day. I will rewind it over and over with increasing pain and misery.

It may take a long time for a person to cycle through this but when it does the habitual thought patterns and feelings get stronger and stronger. So, don't give up in the middle of a change because it may take several weeks to break a strong habit.

Second, The Limbic System that holds on to my feelings of misery communicate from one part of the brain to another in a millisecond. So, we can begin to change when we slow things down. That is, if you really want to change. See Power Christian Thinking if you are ready to give your misery away.
