Its Hard to Forget

This was the second largest crane in America. The brought it in and put it together like an erector set as we watched. The beams of the Twin Towers were very long and a normal crane would not pick them up.

Just a few years ago a group of us from Life Way Counseling Centers received a call from The Salvation Army. They asked if we could send four of our therapists to New York to be available to listen and support the men and women who were the First Responders at Ground Zero. We got on a Delta flight to Newark and the journey began.

We spent a week at Ground Zero ministering to the fire fighters, cops, construction workers and emergency workers. My shift ran from 1:00 AM until 1:00 PM the next day. I sat with people who lost friends, relatives and neighbors. We were stationed in three tents a block south of the Twin Towers and the stench of death was thick.

One tent had food an drink. A second had boots, shirts, jackets, socks, etc. A third had a Doctor from Lexington, KY who ministered healing to burned feet and bruised souls.

My partner Karla in front of our tent.

Joey came daily to see us for prayer and encouragement. His dad had helped build the original and he was tearing it down. He was divorced and his ex and kids lived in Florida. After this he decided to transfer to be with them.

The new Archbishop of Newark, New Jersey was on the job less than a week when hundreds of his flock were killed. We prayed with him.Recovering the bodies.
