Poverty! What Do You Think Are the Major Causes?

I grew up in a poor family. Mom and Dad married in 1933, the worst year of the depression. Their first child died shortly after birth and mother also barely survived, causing trauma, pain and financial problems.

My brother was born in 35, still a time of great financial stress but my folks were doing OK since dad and mom both worked. Then disaster came to our house again. I was born and dad suffered from a burst appendix.

At that time, such a medical difficulty was almost certain death, but his life was saved by the Doctors using an untested medicine. And, they had tow babies to feed.  I will tell you later how we survived.

In the USA we are facing one of the largest increases in poverty in decades. Despite the fact many people are getting better off, there are millions of people who have been out of work so long that they have dropped out of the labor force all together and have joined the ranks of the permanently unemployed.

Second, generational poverty is growing. Many families are living in poverty for three to five generations! This is very difficult to alter.

As you look around what do you see as the things causing these problems? What would you do to improve the lot of poor people??
