What Hath God Wrought?

This is the question asked by Samuel Morse when he finally got his telegraph machine to work. As far as I know, the New York Times or the atheists of the day did not complain that Christianity was taking over the world. In fact, may of the people who read that comment and understood the great leap forward in technology that the telegraph machine represented also thanked God for His enlightenment.

This is the question Michaelangelo must have been thinking about when he painted the Sistene Chapel. As the Psalmist said in Chapter 8:

When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy hands,

The moon and stars that Thou has ordained,

What is man that Thou take any thought of him;
And the son of man that Thou care for him?

Yet,you have made him a little lower than God
And have crowned him with glory and majesty

Thou has made him to rule over the works of your hands
And have put all things under his feet.

This describes us as just a little bit lower than God Himself. (Old versions substituted "angels" when the Hebrew is clearly "God".)

We have the ability to rule and reign over nature and other people. Yes, we can abuse our authority and power and we have abused it. We have our power in earthen vessels. Because of errors and sins among many prominent Christians and their organizations, atheists aggressively attack religion as mean, vile and worse than a virus. Those past evils prove that there is no God. Are they correct?

The fact that atheists must use God's own Moral Law and His word in scripture to say He does not exist can tell us the truth. Because God is there and has revealed Himself in many ways including the Moral Law placed in the minds and hearts of every person. the reality of God is proven.

So, the imago Dei must include an inner awareness of right and wrong, evil and good, peace and war. Those who fight against God and religion when it comes to His Moral Law on such things as sexual promiscuity and divorce and abortion fight with intense fervor when adults abuse a child sexually or abort only female children or domestic abuse.

Without scripture, there is no reason to think that pedophilia is morally wrong. If sexual contact between consenting adults is OK why is it not OK between adults and children? Where did that Moral Law come from? Just visit the writings of the National Association of Man-Boy Love and read their statements strongly supporting adult sex with children. Is a Federal Law protecting the rights of the men in NAMBLA to pursue their "God given sexual orientation" coming soon? Will the Armed Forces be forced to admit them into their ranks by a Supreme Court that refuses to acknowledge God's Law?

Thankfully, being created in the image and likeness of God includes a deep knowledge of the Moral Law. Let us pray for that inner knowledge to rise up in every human.
