Prayer is Key to Evangelism

After doing ministry in Russia for 20 years it is obvious that prayer was the most important part of bringing down the Iron Curtain. Many of the Christians I know in Russia came to faith in Christ as children without any positive witness of Christ by parents, teachers or preachers. They were led by the Holy Spirit in a supernatural and surprising manner.

With the terrible and scary events unfolding in Egypt and the Middle East we are helpless to bring change with wars, politics or personal pleading. We are faced with the stark reality of being helpless in the face of violent and evil people with a terrible belief system. It is very much like the situation we faced when Atheistic Communism ruled the USSR, China and Cuba with their atomic bombs. We were helpless then and we are helpless now.

But God is still answering prayer, so let us remember Ephesians 6:

We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the principalities and powers and spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

We need thousands of men and women to intercede for the Middle East. This is what broke the back of Communism and it brought about real revival. Let us not lose heart but trust God to once again bring love, healing and peace to a fallen world.
